Cabaret Hits Stage At Center For The Arts Feb. 10
The Center for the Arts will present Cabaret, sponsored by Mid-State Surgery and directed by Denis Pessar, February 10-26 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7PM and matinees on Sundays at 2PM.
Wilkommen to The Center For The Arts' ongoing 2012 season. Come experience the alluring, risque nightlife of 1920’s Weimar Berlin Germany at the decadent Kit Kat Club.
Cabaret is an absolute showstopper and is sure to entertain Center for the Arts’ audiences.
Cabaret tells the story of Cliff Bradshaw, a teacher looking for work, who meets and falls in love with showgirl, Sally Bowles, at the Kit Kat Club. The couple eventually enters into a relationship in which some tough decisions have to be made. Each night at the club, the flamboyant Master of Ceremonies introduces vibrant and lively jazz numbers to audiences. The seductive songs of Cabaret become a metaphor and social commentary for Germany’s progression towards Hitlerism. The Kit Kat Club provides not only nightly entertainment but also a solace to those enduring the tragedies of WWII. Life is a cabaret, old chum! So come see Cabaret!
Cabaret is written by Joe Masteroff with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb. The story of Cabaret is based on a short novel entitled Goodbye to Berlin, written by Christopher Isherwood. Cabaret opened on Broadway in 1966 and has since won numerous Tony awards. Cabaret has received praise for decades for its unforgettable story, memorable songs, and fabulous choreography.
The Center for the Arts’ production will be directed and musically directed by Denis Pessar. The show will be choreographed by Julie Wilcox and produced by Jason Hillard. Cabaret promises to be a show that you will not soon forget.
Tickets start at $15 for adults, $13 for students, seniors, and military, and $11 for children (12 and under). Tickets for all performances can be purchased online at www.boroarts.org, by phone at 615-904-2787, or in person at The Center for the Arts, 110 W. College Street, one block off the historic Murfreesboro square. Groups of 10 or more may reserve discounted tickets by calling the center at 615-904-2787.
