May Flowers Show At The Celtic Cup

by Kay FooteThe public is invited to the Celtic Cup meet-the-artist open house for the “May Flowers” watercolor exhibit on May 7, from 5 to 7PM.

Featured artist, Kay Foote, will showcase her newest floral watercolors. Although she has been interested in art most of her life, it wasn’t until retirement that Foote began to paint seriously. "Now that I have a studio in my home, I can usually be found painting on most days," she says.

Five dollar Celtic Cup gift certificates will be given to winners, whose numbers are drawn throughout the evening. A print of one of Foote’s paintings will also be presented to one lucky winner during the evening’s festivities.

Music during the evening will be provided by new Tullahoma resident, Kelly Wetzel. Wetzel will play and sing some of her original music along with familiar love songs. She started performing and writing music at an early age and attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee where she pursued her interest in music. “I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the beauty of Tennessee and the warmth of the people living here, so it is a pleasure to now call Tullahoma home,” said Wetzel.

. “It has been a privilege to live in a town that encourages creative talent,” added Foote. “With the new Art Council recently established in Tullahoma, I envision expanded opportunities for the local art community in the future. It’s been my experience that a town that encourages creativity is a place that has a far-reaching positive image that attracts visitors to the area as well as providing a happy environment for people living within the community. One of the pleasant surprises I had as a new resident was discovering that the annual exhibition of the traveling American Watercolor Society show comes to Tullahoma. A couple from Ohio were among the first guests I met while volunteering one afternoon at the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center. They said they make the trip yearly to enjoy the newest exhibit. Since there are only seven cities throughout the United States that are on the schedule for the traveling show, Tullahoma is a unique, art-friendly place to live."

The 2013 American Watercolor Society show is currently on display at the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center through May 11th, along with watercolors displayed in the main floor gallery by Ann Smotherman, Jim House, Foote and other local artists.
