JEFF MAYFIELD
Jeff Mayfield captures beauty with both brush and lens. Whether he is pausing to
adjust the "stops" on his camera for a photograph or pausing to adjust his
perspective for a watercolor painting, his works reveal glimpses and interpretations
of artist Jeff Mayfield’s individual journey through life. His works capture some of the
moments and memories that have molded and enriched his life and character.
These images present Mayfield’s personal visual “scrapbook”, but can also be
viewed as cultural universals.
The artists hopes that his images will spark remembrances of special times in the lives of the viewer. Recently, I have combined both of my favorite mediums, black and white photography and watercolor. I now create a mixed media painting which starts with a carefully planned and developed black and white photograph printed on 140 lb. watercolor paper. The image is then painted with transparent watercolors and gouche allowing the message in the image to be further emphasized through specific areas of color.

"Art uses many mediums to communicate with one's emotions and spirit. For me, visual media express my feelings, thoughts and ideas. My work uses the visual arts to communicate emotional and spiritual messages through treatment of scenes and objects of daily life.
